So a little while back I visited my grandma in Salisbury, MD. It’s a quaint little town and I had a lot of fun just hanging out and enjoying the peace and quiet. My grandma is the best. I mean seriously guys, I have the best grandma (sorry).
Anyways, on my way home I was sitting in the tiny little Salisbury airport waiting on my delayed flight when I started talking to this man sitting near me about food blogging. Yes, of course I was sitting at a table working on my blog. What else do you do in a tiny little airport like that? As we started talking, he mentioned that his organization made barrel aged maple syrup and thought I might like to try it.
He gave me his card and a couple weeks later I contacted him and the rest was history.
This maple syrup is AWESOME! I mean seriously guys, this stuff is good.

The Recipe: Chili and Maple Syrup Glazed Shrimp
So you guys really came here for the recipe right? Not to hear me babble on and on about my lovely vacation to see my grandma. And the oh so delicious crab cakes we indulged in. No, you came to read about this chili and maple syrup glazed shrimp recipe. With just the right amount of sweet and a hint of spice from the chili, these shrimp are DIVINE! Yes, I said divine.
Cooked in about 5 minutes, these shrimp are quickly broiled in a searing hot cast iron skillet. With only 4 ingredients, this is a perfectly delicious and healthy dish. Great to serve on those weeknights that you just don’t have much time and energy to make a complicated meal.
And that bourbon barrel aged maple syrup used in this recipe is the best maple syrup I’ve ever had. Seriously guys. But obviously, you can substitute any type of maple syrup here. And the Chili Garlic Sauce – well, we all know about this stuff. Typically found in your local grocery store, this stuff is great on SO MANY THINGS! Check out some of these other awesome recipes using chili garlic sauce:
The key to getting a fast sear on these shrimp is to heat the cast iron skillet for 20 minutes in the oven before adding the shrimp. The turn your broiler on, add the shrimp to the skillet, and cook for about 5 minutes. I mean guys, come on, including the time to heat the skillet ( 20 minutes where you can take a shower, clean the floor, take a nap), this chili and maple syrup glazed shrimp takes 30 minutes to make MAX. It would be awesome served with this super easy to make basic fried rice, deliciously spicy kimchi fried rice, bok choy with oyster sauce, or these yummy Szechuan style green beans.
This is good stuff guys.
- 1 lbs fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 tbsp. maple syrup
- 1 1/2 tbsp. chili garlic sauce
- 1/2 tsp. sea salt
Heat a cast iron skillet in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Mix the maple syrup, chili garlic sauce and salt in a bowl.
Add the shrimp and mix to coat evenly.
Remove skillet from the oven and add the shrimp. Place skillet back in the oven under the broiler for about 5 minutes, or until the shrimp is pink and cooked through.
Remove from oven and serve.
