Thanksgiving is basically my dream food holiday. There’s no need to pretend we’re eating light, there’s always room for one more side dish, and leftovers are practically part of the celebration. But putting together a Thanksgiving meal plan can be a little overwhelming. There are appetizers to make, turkey to cook, side dishes to coordinate, desserts to bake, and somehow you’re supposed to have everything ready at the same time.
So I’m taking the guesswork out of it!
This Thanksgiving dinner menu is packed with cozy fall flavors, classic holiday favorites, and a few dishes that put a fun twist on the traditional Thanksgiving table. Whether you’re hosting a big family gathering or keeping things a little smaller this year, there’s something here for everyone.
And yes, I included plenty of sweet potatoes. It’s Thanksgiving. I’m not apologizing.

Start Your Thanksgiving Morning With Breakfast
Thanksgiving dinner may be the main event, but that doesn’t mean you should spend the entire morning hungry.
I like starting the day with something hearty enough to keep everyone satisfied while still leaving plenty of room for the big meal later.
Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash

This Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash is a fantastic Thanksgiving morning breakfast. It’s hearty, savory, and packed with sweet potatoes to give you plenty of energy for all that holiday cooking.
Plus, it’s exactly the kind of breakfast that can keep everyone from wandering into the kitchen asking, “When’s dinner?” at 10:30 in the morning.
Serve it with eggs and coffee and you’re ready to tackle Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Appetizers and Snacks
Eventually, everyone is going to start getting hungry again. This is where the Thanksgiving appetizers come to the rescue.
I like having a couple of snacks available so guests can nibble while the turkey is cooking without filling up before dinner.
Simple Cranberry Baked Brie

Creamy baked brie and cranberry are basically a Thanksgiving match made in heaven.
This Cranberry Baked Brie is warm, gooey, festive, and ridiculously easy to put together. Put it out with crackers or toasted bread and watch it disappear.
Seriously, you may want to make two.
Fresh Cranberry Jalapeño Cream Cheese Dip

Fresh Cranberry Jalapeño Cream Cheese Dip
If you like a little sweet-and-spicy action on your Thanksgiving table, this one is for you.
Fresh cranberries bring tartness, jalapeños bring a little heat, and creamy cheese pulls everything together. It’s colorful enough to look festive on your appetizer table and flavorful enough to keep everyone coming back for another scoop.
Coconut Curry Pumpkin Soup

Want to add something a little unexpected to your Thanksgiving meal?
This Coconut Curry Pumpkin Soup brings all those cozy fall pumpkin vibes with a delicious curry twist. The coconut milk makes it creamy and rich while the curry adds warmth and plenty of flavor.
Serve it in small bowls or cups as an appetizer so everyone still has plenty of room for dinner.
The Main Event: Thanksgiving Dinner
And now we get to the part we’ve all been waiting for.
The turkey.
But here's the thing: you don't have to smoke a whole turkey to make an impressive Thanksgiving dinner.
Sometimes I want buttery, golden, juicy turkey without all the smoke. And that's exactly where these recipes come in.
Buttery Roasted Turkey Thighs

If you’re not a fan of smoked turkey but absolutely love buttery, juicy turkey, these Buttery Roasted Turkey Thighs belong on your Thanksgiving table.
Turkey thighs are flavorful, wonderfully juicy, and much more forgiving than trying to perfectly roast an entire turkey.
And let’s be honest: the crispy skin is one of the best parts.
Grilled Cornish Game Hens

Cooking for a smaller group this Thanksgiving?
These Apple Cider Marinated Cornish Game Hens are a fun alternative to a traditional turkey. The apple cider marinade gives them plenty of seasonal flavor, and individual hens make the dinner feel extra special.
They’re also a great option if you want a Thanksgiving meal that feels festive without cooking a giant bird.
Smoked Turkey Gravy

Because Thanksgiving dinner without gravy is basically just a collection of side dishes sitting on a plate.
Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic.
But gravy really does bring the whole meal together.
This Smoked Turkey Gravy is rich, savory, and perfect for pouring over turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, cornbread pudding, or basically anything else you can get onto your fork.
Thanksgiving Side Dishes
Now we get to my favorite part of Thanksgiving.
The sides.
I firmly believe Thanksgiving side dishes deserve just as much attention as the turkey. In fact, I know plenty of people who are really just here for the mashed potatoes and stuffing.
No judgment.
Cornbread Pudding

Soft, comforting, and full of delicious cornbread flavor, this Cornbread Pudding is exactly the kind of cozy side dish I want on my Thanksgiving table.
It has that wonderful combination of sweet and savory that works beautifully with turkey and gravy.
Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Thanksgiving and sweet potatoes go together like pumpkin pie and whipped cream.
These Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes are creamy, flavorful, and wonderfully easy to make. And because the Instant Pot does most of the work, you can save valuable stovetop and oven space for everything else.
Which, on Thanksgiving, is basically priceless.
Baked Sweet Potato Slices with Harissa Honey Glaze

Yes, another sweet potato recipe.
I told you I wasn’t apologizing.
These Baked Sweet Potato Slices with Harissa Honey Glaze are a little different from the usual Thanksgiving sweet potato casserole. The honey adds sweetness while harissa brings a delicious little kick.
They’re colorful, flavorful, and guaranteed to make the Thanksgiving table more interesting.
Sautéed Green Beans with Bacon

Every Thanksgiving dinner needs something green.
And if that green thing happens to be cooked with bacon, even better.
These Sautéed Green Beans with Bacon are simple, savory, and packed with flavor. The bacon adds richness while the green beans keep things fresh and crisp.
It's the kind of easy Thanksgiving side dish that disappears surprisingly fast.
Easy Cranberry Orange Chutney

I love having something bright and tart alongside all the rich Thanksgiving food.
This Cranberry Orange Chutney brings plenty of fresh cranberry flavor with a pop of citrus from orange. It’s fantastic alongside turkey and also makes a great addition to leftover turkey sandwiches.
And we all know those leftovers are coming.
More Thanksgiving Side Dish Favorites
Want to add a few more dishes to the Thanksgiving table? I’ve got you covered. These are a few Thanksgiving side dishes that are different from the main menu above, so you can build an even bigger spread without repeating the same flavors.
- Cranberry Roasted Butternut Squash – Roasted butternut squash gets a festive upgrade with tart cranberries. It’s colorful, cozy, and right at home on a Thanksgiving table.
- Roasted Acorn Squash – This is one of those gorgeous fall side dishes that looks like you spent way more time on it than you actually did. The roasted squash is tender, caramelized, and full of seasonal flavor.
- Candied Beets – Looking for a pop of color? These sweet, earthy beets make a beautiful addition to a Thanksgiving dinner menu and bring something a little different to the usual holiday lineup.
- Wild Rice Stuffing – If you want to move beyond traditional bread stuffing, this wild rice version is a delicious option. It adds a hearty, nutty element to the Thanksgiving table and pairs beautifully with turkey and gravy.
- Honey Roasted Parsnips – Sweet, caramelized, and wonderfully simple, roasted parsnips are an easy way to add another seasonal vegetable to your Thanksgiving feast.
Because Thanksgiving is the one meal where having too many side dishes is really just another way of saying “we planned correctly.”

Finish Thanksgiving With Dessert
After turkey, gravy, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, appetizers, and probably a few bites of whatever everyone else brought...
Obviously we need dessert.
This is Thanksgiving. There are rules.
Sweet Pumpkin Soufflé with Caramel Pecan Sauce

This Sweet Pumpkin Soufflé with Caramel Pecan Sauce is the kind of dessert that makes people pause for a second after the first bite.
Light and fluffy pumpkin soufflé meets rich caramel pecan sauce. It's cozy, festive, and feels a little more special than your everyday pumpkin dessert.
Pumpkin Pie Bars with Shortbread Crust

If you love pumpkin pie but want something a little easier to serve, these Pumpkin Pie Bars with Shortbread Crust are a fantastic option.
They have all those classic pumpkin pie flavors in an easy-to-slice bar.
And anything with a buttery shortbread crust has my attention.
No-Bake Lemon Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust

Not everyone wants pumpkin everything.
For those people, make this No-Bake Lemon Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust.
The bright lemon flavor is a refreshing change after a rich Thanksgiving dinner, while the gingersnap crust keeps things firmly in the holiday flavor zone.
Crustless Coconut Pie

And then there’s coconut.
This Crustless Coconut Pie is creamy, sweet, and wonderfully simple. Plus, no crust means one less thing to worry about during an already busy cooking day.
If you’re anything like me, I'm always happy to eliminate one more step on Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving Drinks
Of course, we need something delicious to drink while we're eating all this food.
And since Thanksgiving is a long day, I love having a couple of festive non-alcoholic drinks that everyone can enjoy.
Sparkling Cranberry Lemonade

This Sparkling Cranberry Lemonade is tart, bubbly, refreshing, and absolutely gorgeous on a Thanksgiving table.
The cranberry gives it that perfect holiday color while the lemonade keeps things bright and refreshing.
Serve it in pretty glasses with fresh cranberries and lemon slices for an easy Thanksgiving drink that feels special.
Cherry Lime Rickey Mocktail

For something a little different, try this Cherry Lime Rickey Mocktail.
It’s fruity, fizzy, refreshing, and has just the right amount of tart lime flavor.
It also makes a great option for kids or anyone skipping alcohol during the holiday.

How to Plan Your Thanksgiving Meal Plan
The secret to a less stressful Thanksgiving isn't necessarily cooking less food. It's planning ahead.
Start by choosing your main dish and then build your Thanksgiving menu around it.
I like to think about the meal in three categories: make ahead, prep ahead, and cook at the last minute.
A Few Days Before Thanksgiving
Make anything that stores well and doesn't need to be served immediately. Cranberry chutney, dips, and some desserts are great candidates for advance preparation.
The Day Before
Get as much chopping, measuring, mixing, and general kitchen prep done as possible.
Trust me on this one.
Thanksgiving Day is not the time to discover you forgot to buy butter.
Thanksgiving Morning
Make your breakfast, get the coffee going, and start working through your cooking plan.
This is also a good time to get appetizers and drinks organized so they're ready when guests arrive.
Before Dinner
Get your turkey or Cornish game hens cooking and work through your side dishes.
Keep an eye on your oven space because Thanksgiving has a sneaky way of turning the oven into the busiest appliance in the house.
Dessert Time
And finally...
Eat dessert.
You made it.
Don't Forget the Leftovers!
One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving is knowing that tomorrow's lunch is already taken care of.
Turkey sandwiches, leftover mashed sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy...
Honestly, Thanksgiving leftovers might be one of the best reasons to make a big meal in the first place.
So don't worry if you have a little extra food. Pack it up, put it in the refrigerator, and enjoy the feast all over again.
The Perfect Thanksgiving Meal Plan
This Thanksgiving, don't stress about creating the perfect holiday menu. Pick a few dishes you love, add a couple of new recipes, and make the meal your own.
Whether you're feeding a crowd or keeping things cozy with just a few people, this Thanksgiving meal plan gives you plenty of options for a delicious holiday from breakfast all the way through dessert.
And remember: Thanksgiving is about good food, good company, and enjoying the people around your table.
The dishes can wait.
The pie, however, probably shouldn't.
