This quick and easy 15 minute New Orleans shrimp is amazingly delicious and addictive!

Welcome to Cajun food month! And Happy Mardi Gras (is that a thing?). I am super excited about the recipes this month. Get ready to throw that January diet out the window and eat some oh-so-delicious, and perhaps just a touch unhealthy, Cajun cuisine. The calories are worth it guys. It’s just one month, you’ll be ok.
For the first batch of these 15 minute New Orleans BBQ Shrimp, I was only going to have a little bit. I’m coming off the holidays in a bad way. I need to get rid of 5 pounds.
And this shrimp has SO. MUCH. BUTTER.
But I tried one, then 2 , then likely 30 more.
I could not just have a few. I no longer care how much butter is in this recipe (please don’t look at the nutrition info). It’s DAMN good.
I mean seriously guys, how can something with so much butter be bad?
It can’t (again, DO NOT look at the nutrition info).
So then I had a conundrum.
The boyfriend wasn’t home yet. It was Friday night and I always make dinner for us on Friday night. But this night he had to work late.
However, he knew I was making dinner.
Herein lies the conundrum. I wanted to eat more shrimp. But I had already eaten half. However, he would never know how much I really made.
So I sat. And I pondered.
Then had one more shrimp out of the pan and saved the rest.
I’m such a great girlfriend. He doesn’t know how lucky he is….
He was also a pretty big fan of these delicious little morsels of goodness.
I had New Orleans BBQ shrimp for the first time in, uh, New Orleans. And it was amazing. Since that day, if I see a restaurant that offers it, I will order it. I had it again at this little Cajun spot in Portland, Oregon, but haven’t had it since.
So when Cajun food month came around I knew I needed to make this 15 minute New Orleans BBQ Shrimp.
Now first things first. I highly recommend using shrimp with the heads on for this recipe. The flavors from the shrimp heads adds to the sauce, and I LOVE to suck on them. I’m drooling right now just thinking about it.
BUT, you’ll notice in my photos there are no heads on the shrimp. Well, I had a hell of a time finding shrimp with heads on when I went to photograph this recipe. So it is what it is until I can re-shoot.
If you are grossed out by shrimp heads, well, first off, don’t be. Take a chance, give them a shot. What do you really have to lose? If you try it and don’t like it, don’t worry, this can be made with headless shrimp as well. It’s still good.
This recipe is so freakin’ easy to make too. I can whip it together in just about 10 minutes. Hence the name 15 minute New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. I added a couple extra minutes for “taste testing”.

- 2 lbs. shrimp heads on
- 3 sticks unsalted butter
- 5 1/2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp. Cajun seasoning
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 cup white wine
- 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- Couple dashes of Tabasco sauce
Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the garlic until soft.
Add the bay leaf, white wine, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and Cajun seasoning.
Cook for 5 minutes until slightly reduced.
Add the shrimp and cook until no longer opaque, about 5 minutes.
Serve with crusty bread.
