The perfect quick and easy dessert, this No Bake Oreo Ball recipe is made with cream cheese and coated with powdered sugar for the most amazing cool treat on a summer day. Plus, with just 3 ingredients, it doesn’t get an easier!
This recipe was originally posted in February 2017. It has been updated for content, photos and I’ve added a video.
Don’t worry about all that chocolate dipping you typically find in other Oreo Ball recipes. These Oreo truffles are super simple – throw them in a container with powdered sugar and roll them around.
So much easier than dipping them in chocolate. Messy to eat? Maybe. Super yummy? Definitely. Perfect for binge eating and binge watching guilty pleasures like Gossip Girl? YES.
However, if you do prefer the chocolate coated Oreo truffles, check out this Oreo Balls recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod.
Why This Recipe Works
They are so easy to make even husbands and boyfriends can make them;
With only 3 ingredients, it makes for an incredibly easy shopping trip;
Who doesn’t LOVE Oreos?
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1: Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor or blender and pulse until fine crumbs are formed.
Step 2: Mix in the cream cheese until it become like a dough.
Step 3: Roll into 1-2 inch balls and place on a lined baking sheet or plate. Place in the freezer for 20 minutes.
Step 4: Put the powdered sugar in a covered bowl or container. Add the Oreo balls (in batches of 4 or 5) to the bowl, cover and shake to coat.
How to Make Oreo Balls Without a Food Processor
– You can use your hands and crush them into fine crumbs (hard to do);
– Use a potato masher to finely crush them (a little easier but still a PITA);
– Place them in a zip lock bag and use a mallet to crush them (easiest, but with the potential for a disastrous mess).
Expert Tips
- To best finely crush the Oreos, I highly recommend using a food processor.
- Make sure the cream cheese is room temperature so it is easy to mix into the Oreo crumbs.
- Place them in the freezer for at least 20 minutes before coating with powdered sugar. The freezer helps them to firm up so it is easier to coat them in powdered sugar. It is also nice to eat them cold on a hot summer day!
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do Oreo Balls stay good? The Oreo truffles will stay good in the fridge for several weeks….if you can go that long without eating them all!
Can I make them ahead of time? These are great to make in advance. Make the Oreo balls and store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them. Coat them with powdered sugar per the instructions and serve!
Do I need to refrigerate Oreo Balls? Because Oreo Balls are made with cream cheese, they do need to be refrigerated in a covered continer.
Can I freeze them? Definitely! Place the Oreo balls on a baking sheet and place directly in the freezer for 3 hours, or until frozen through. Place them in a freezer bag or freezer safe container and store for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and then coat them with powdered sugar before serving.
Variations
– Instead of original Oreos, you can use Peanut Butter Oreos, Red Velvet Oreos, Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos, or really any Oreo flavor you come across. The recipe will be the same – get creative!
– Coat the Oreo truffles with a half and half mixture of powdered sugar and cocoa powder for an extra chocolaty truffle.
– As discussed earlier, instead of coating with powdered sugar, you can coat with melted chocolate. Try this Oreo Balls recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod.
– Place 1/4 cup of crushed peppermint sticks with the Oreos and cream cheese to make peppermint Oreo Balls for the holidays.
– Mix in 1/4 to 1/2 cup of crushed butterfingers, coconut, chopped almonds, dried cherries, mini marshmallows or caramel bits with the Oreo and cream cheese batter.
